Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign that included Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the possibility that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead another team within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, so I could make the decision in a few years, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, praising him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, and the effect for the team. Jota died tragically in a road accident with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the squad missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
