That Gruesome Animated Movie Conclusion That Lingers Viewers
Out of every adult-oriented cartoon movies I have personally watched, nothing has stuck with me quite like the dread-soaked finale of a explicitly bloody as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, the Spain-based filmmaker crafted a grim, somber and often savage world that included some tiny , forlorn hints of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars appears as it came from an impulse to expand the medium further, the filmmaker explained that it was rather an effort to communicate a widespread, multicultural message concerning “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That idea is communicated by means of a band of vividly colored bears , openly modeled after a famous series of lovable characters.
Being raised in a community focused on militarism and the defense industry, many of these animals are consumed by killing unicorns, thanks to a religious scripture that tells them they used to be kings of the woods, until the unicorns forced them out.
A few did not entirely accepted the brainwashing, and prefer to sample drugs and mate in the woods.
Unlike their friendly counterparts, these colorful critters have visible genitals and obvious urges.
For one particularly cruel, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the conflict with the unicorns transforms into a road toward dominance — and particularly to dominance above his more tender, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.
The character is a bully , an obvious antisocial figure , and when fear takes over his unit and takes his comrades one by one, he takes increasingly influence on his own behalf, via progressively gory, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are suffering their own nightmare, in the form of a growing, harmful creature in their woods.
“At the beginning, it seems like a humorous movie,” the director commented. “But then it turns into a more intense and melancholic film. And ultimately, it transforms into a scary feature.”
Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like among the whimsical films by a legendary animator, that uncover a wicked pleasure in letting cartoon characters curse, shoot each other, or sex each other up.
Then it becomes something more like a darker film from that director, including ever more explicit brutality and a noticeable link to the actual tragedy of conflict.
In the finale, it is a complete theatrical horror bloodbath.
The horror that makes this a perfect Halloween viewing kicks in a lot earlier than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted gorehounds, for enthusiasts of intense movies who want to view a film they’ve never viewed until now, and are able to withstand a story which delivers unflinching brutality.
See it with the lights off without any distractions, and that ending will burrow into your mind and take up residence there.
