The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
