Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 at the Heat.

The Serbian center injured himself late in the first half in an unintentional contact with team-mate Spencer Jones.

Jones stepped on the foot of the MVP, and he instantly went down to the ground holding his leg.

The veteran player, who is leading the league this season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the game before incurring the problem.

The player will have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the problem.

"Immediately, he knew there was a problem," stated Nuggets head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who is injured, it's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as talented as him. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We will continue as a team. Of course, currently, I am more worried primarily about him personally and the frustration of experiencing something like that."
