Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Incident as Police Continue Search for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who were killed in the recent tragic incident in Providence were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their shooter persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also shared condolences on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a raid at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke fresh anxiety for our public”.

The gunman began shooting inside a room in the engineering facility on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Law enforcement that raided the hotel seized two firearms and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was detained, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, a single scholar was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only in her youth... but at Brown she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “She was famed for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his promising future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in the current year, according to records. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
